To find the authors purpose we first need to remember pie
Persuade
Inform
Entertain

Persuade 
Is the text persuading you to do something or maybe buy something.

Inform
Is the text informing you about something.

Entertain
Is the text entertaining you on a topic.

All three of these help you to find the authors purpose easier

After finding out which one of the three the author is trying to do you then move onto another 

three , they're , agree, disagree and neutral.

Agree 

The author is trying to persuade you to do something.

Disagree 

The author is trying to persuade you not to do something

Neutral 

The author is just trying to entertain you.

These three will also help you get one step closer to finding the authors purpose.

Now you need to figure out what the intended audience.

It could be

Elderly 

Adults

Kids

Baby's

And more

After that you just need to make an overall statement that includes what you found out.

For me I think that I am extended abstract because I can find out the authors purpose for many different stories
