Merit Can Do - Peer Mediation #5

On the 2nd of May I had PeerMediation. Today after eating inside I went to zone 3 (cloakroom) to get a vest, a lanyard and the iPad. We headed out to the junior area, that's where most of the problems occur. So anyway we headed out there and surprisingly there were no problems which was a good start, but then a little boy came up to us and told us his problem. All that happened was he was looking for someone so we helped him find his friend and he went off happily playing with his friend. There were also some small other issues but that happens all the time. Overall I think I got involved by helping little kids especially that little boy because he wasn't getting involved before but when we found his friend he got involved and played with his friend. Also I think I showed the learner quality of being resilient because when there were heaps of small problems that the little kids had it was very hard for them to focus and figure the problem but I was resilient and helped them out eventually.

Merit Can Do - Librarian #5

Today I had librarian. I went to the library with my other buddies, we got the Barbie and Lego books and a bean bag each. We headed over to the deck and sat down. As we settled down heaps of girls came over, only for the Barbie books the little girls love the Barbie books. So they came over, picked a book that they wanted to listen to and we read it to them. There were so many girls that we had to read the same book nearly one hundred times over and over again. Overall I think I got involved by reading got the little kids and getting them involved. Also I think that I showed the learner quality of being resilient because even thought I was getting frustrated with reading the same story over and over again I still kept going and keeping the books happy.

My Argument

For writing we have been learning to write an argument using the writing process. The topic was “Are Devices Taking Over Our Lives”.

Something I did really well in my writing was…
  • Making my paragraphs really detailed
  • Evaluating on my ideas heaps
  • Using strong words and connectives to connect my ideas and paragraphs

Here are some sections of my writing that shows this.
1.
XxCdkf  = Connectives
Technology is taking over our lives

Introduction

I believe that technology is taking over our lives. How though? In a good way or a bad way? There is a variety of different reasons on both sides, for instance technology is stopping people from ruining nature because people have to cut down trees for paper but also in a bad way technology is bad for your health and lifestyle because it ruins people’s eyesight. Here are some good ways that technology is making the world a better place.

Good ways technology is taking over the world is by saving trees.
For example trees help us to breath and live they also give us paper to write on, draw on, and do heaps of other things with, paper comes from trees, trees are a part of nature and nature will get ruined if we continue on to waste paper.

This piece of my writing shows how I used connectives in my writing to connect ideas and paragraphs

2.
Another reason technology is helping us make the world a better place is by helping paralyzed or disabled people by giving them the treatments with technology. With technology people can also make bones and other body parts to give to people so they can be the same as everyone else. For example imagine someone who doesn’t have a leg, people would be scared of them thinking that having one leg is disgusting when actually they are probably the coolest person in the world. Imagine how helpful technology could be to them and give them a fake leg that can help people like them make friends and make their life better

This piece of writing shows how I have evaluated on my idea with an example

3.
Overall I think that devices are taking over our lives. Technology is amazing and a great thing to have but too much of it can harm people's lives and the world. I personally feel that technology should be in our lives but not the centre of attention, it shouldn't be in your way. Just because you want to play a game at a certain time that doesn't mean you can lie to your friend saying that you are busy when you're actually not. Go outside and do something active it's good for your brain and body whereas technology isn't it doesn't make you be more active it makes you more lazy and just want to sit there all day long. Of course devices are good for rainy days but if you stay locked in your room with the curtains shut just with your eyes on your screen that will ruin your eyes, open those curtains, it may just be the best day to go outside and hang out with your friends.

This piece of writing shows how I have detailed my overall statement by adding heaps of detail and but not making it too long

Merit Can Do - Librarian #4

On Wednesday the 13th of April I had librarian with my friend Lauren. We have a duty on Wednesday for librarian which is to go down to the junior area to read some books. We grabbed some interesting picture books that a variety of kids might like. We also grabbed a bean bag each and carried them to the deck outside the music room on the junior kids side. We plopped them down and made scattered the books in a few rows on the wall so the covers were showed to all the little kids and it was easy to pick a book. The minute we sat down some kids came up with a few books in their hands. By this time we already knew that there was going to be a crowd here soon. And within minutes our words came true heaps of kids came up to listen to the stories. We read nearly all the books in the whole lunch time. It was so much fun to be involved in doing something that keeps others happy and it makes me happy too because I got to do something at lunch time instead of just walking around the school with nothing to do. Overall I had heaps of fun and I think I showed my learner quality of self aware because when I was reading heaps of kids would be coming and going or not paying attention but I use my learner quality of self aware and stayed patient and waited until I could keep reading.

Writing - Exposition

This is my conclusion for my exposition

Conclusion

Meaning both leaders have the aspects of a great leader. But what leader is better? In my opinion J.K Rowling is a better leader because she worked up to her goal and demonstrates all these leadership traits.

I think I concluded my exposition really well

Term 1 Integrated Learning - Leadership

We have been learning all about What makes a good leader.

We identified that good leaders show 6 main character traits. These are
  • Integrity
  • Goal Focused
  • Trustworthy
  • Active Thinker
  • Resilient
  • Motivational

The leadership trait that I think I show the most is Resilient because when I'm doing my Peer Mediation or Librarian duties, the little kids can be a bit hard to handle but I solve the problem after awhile

The leadership trait I would most like to develop is Active Thinker because I want to get more into class discussions and come up with good ideas.

Something NEW I have learned about leadership is how to be a good leader and what it takes to be a leader e.g: At first I didn't know that you had to be motivational to be a good leader.

The SOLO level that I reached during this unit of learning is I think I'm Extended Abstract because I can evaluate the effectiveness of a leader.

My next step in learning about leadership is to apply everything that I have learned about leadership to my own leadership roles.

Music

I can describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place

Over the past 7 weeks I have been learning to describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place

I can describe these characteristics in a piece of music like...
  • Melody - A nice calming, quiet tune that flows
  • Harmony - A few notes put together to make a nice sound
  • Rhythm - A repeated sound or movement
  • Timbre - Character or quality of a musical sound
  • Form - The structure of a song
Here is an example of my learning Link to activity

Merit Can Do - Peer Mediation #4

Today I had Peer Mediation. Charlotte and I went out to get our things. We headed out and the minute we stepped off the steps a problem came up. We went over and started the Peer Mediation procedure, but when we needed to fill the form the Ipad was flat. So we used our active thinking brains and got some paper, a clipboard and a pen. Then we kept on going with the problem. It kindve started to get violent so we went to a teacher and she thanked us and solved the problem. After that we went to the junior area and took a few laps before the bell rang.

Merit Can Do - Peer Mediation #3

On Monday the 4th of April I had a duty for peer mediation. Me and my friend Charlotte had to get our things and go. But we had one problem, the iPad that we needed to use was dead. We didn't know what to do and we had a problem to note down. But then I thought maybe we could do it like they used to with a clipboard and some paper. So I rushed back to the classroom and grabbed some scrap paper, a pen and a clipboard and headed back out. Then we wrote down the problem, got it solved and since it was only a tiny matter we threw the paper away and moved on. I think today I showed the learner quality of active thinking because at that time when we realised the iPad was dead I quickly took action and got the problem solved. I was glad to solve the problems and to be involved in something that I know I won't need to just sit around in a corner for.

Merit Can do - Librarian #3

Yesturday the 5th of April I had to fulfill my duty of being a librarian. Today we decided to take the Barbie and Lego books as they are so popular that they never seem to be in the library. As we thought all the kids just came up to us and started to pick out books. We had so many kids come up to us that we had to read one book about 5 times. I had so much fun reading to the little kids because they got involved as well as us, instead of just sitting down or walking around the school. Even though I had to read all the books over and over again I was resilient and kept on going and kept the kids happy.
