Merit Can do - Peer mediation 2016 #1

On Thursday the 18th of February, Zac (peermediation partner) and I had our first go at peer mediation since I did it last year it wasn't that bad it just felt normal but for Zac it was his first time so I told him a little bit about peer mediation and answered some questions that he had asked. While we were walking he saw some Kakano students who has a problem about some game rules, it was just after a while that they firgured out the problem on their own with just some guidance from us. It was nice to be involved in something at lunch and to help little kids out with problems that they don't need to go to a teacher about. Since it was Zacs first day of peer mediation he was a bit rusty so I did have to guide him a bit and it was a bit frustrating but I showed my self awareness and was patient. Overall I think we had a good day of peermediation. And I can't wait till next weeks peer mediation day. 

Merit Must do - Jellie Park Swimming Sports

 On Frdiay the 19th of February all of Oaklands School went to Jellie Park for swimming. The Kauri team (Year 4 - 8's) were in the indoor pool having races and the Kakano team (Year 1 - 3's) were inside in the little pool. I am a year 8 this year which meant I was meant to be in the indoor pool races.

On the way there and back I showed my self awareness by only talking to my friend next to me and talking in a quite voice so only your friend can hear you.

This year I got into the class relay team for my class. I also did 25m length freestyle and backstroke races. I was really getting involved in swimming this year because I got the chance to do three different things.

Overall the Jellie Park Swimming Sports was really fun and I enjoyed it allot especially the house games and the relay.

Goal reflection for term 4

My 3 goals that I had set for me at the start of the year are almost at the position to ending which means a new goal will replace the completed goals position. 

2015 Goals

1. I want to get my Gold award.
2. Get my Merit badge.
3. To try and get head or deputy head girl or house captain for 2016.

Goal Reflection

1. To get my Gold award I need to get my Bronze and Silver awards first. I am one tick away from getting my Bronze award so I will get my Bronze award soon, and I will be one step to getting my Gold award.
2. Finally my second goal is complete now I have got my Merit badge and I am now aiming for my Excellence badge. So now on the list I can swap the word Merit with Excellence!
3. My third goal is to get a role for head or deputy girl or house captain. To complete this I need to show leadership in all positions and try get my badges.

Overall I am very proud of myself for completing one goal. I hope I complete all my goals before 2015 has finished.

My Discovery

W.A.L.T: Identify reflection, rotation and translation

Over the past term I have been in a geometry maths group with some other people. On my AsTTle maths test results it said I had to work on this goal so I have been working hard to complete my assigned activities and now I have come to the stage where I make a presentation to prove that I have fully understood this goal. Here is my presentation I hope you like it! :)


Overall I think I am Extended Abstract because I can identify reflection, rotation and translation really easily.

Koru Games - Leadership, Must Do, Excellence

Over the last 3 days all the year 7's and 8's went to four different venues to play four different sports. At the start of the year we had the selection of four sports, Netball, Basketball, Touch and Soccer. I chose Touch because I wanted to try something a bit different. Since term one with 0% of knowledge I and my team have come all the way till term 3 with 100% knowledge of our sport. In the past 3 days I have enjoyed playing Touch and almost scoring a try. Thinking back to the start of the year I have improved on my passing and defence. Overall I found the Koru Games was really fun and I cant wait to go back next year.

Help around the school

Today Emma and I helped around in the library because to librarians that were on didn't show up. We helped the only librarian that showed up and kept the library going and helping Mrs Ward at the desk, returning books to shelves and much more. It was really good to help around in the library when it wasn't my day. Overall I think you should try and help someone out without being asked to because it gives you a really good feeling.

Choir

Yesterday I had choir practice. We were revising a few songs  as we had a trip on Monday to avonside school. At avoiding snide school we will be practices singing with other schools for the big performance on the 30th of October in the CBS Arena. We obviously did some warm ups before we started singing though. We sang and practiced Ring Of Fire and a few more. Overall I can't wait till Monday to go practice singing with other schools and I can't wait to perform at the 2015 Music Featival.

Information about Moa

Moa lived very successfully in New Zealand for many hundreds of thousands of years, only becoming extinct some time after the arrival of people. Evidence that Moa existed is provided by fossils. It is known from the fossiled bones that have been found that Moa were large birds, with largest reaching 1.8 meters at the highest point on their backs, and weighing up to 240 kilograms. Although they had a small head, they had a long neck, large body, and large , powerful legs. The breast bones of Moa are similar to that of several living flightless birds. This, along with their size, means it is likely that Moa could not fly. It is also Lilley that Moa behaved in similar ways to some living flightless birds. Evidence that they , like kakapo, ate twigs, seeds, berries, and leaves, and browsed on shrubs (rather than ate grass as some flightless birds do) has been provided by preserved stomach contents that have been found.
